Verse of the Day-Proverbs 14:1

The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands.

Psalm 111:10 tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom so it makes sense that the wise woman would first fear the Lord; hold Him and His Word at a reverence and solemn respect.  To do this properly she must love the Lord with all her heart, soul and mind (Matt. 22:37).  If she does this, it stands to reason that everything else will fall into place.

This brings another thought to mind.  We know that the second greatest is to love our neighbor.  But what about our family?  I mean, many of us have no trouble treating acquaintances and strangers with respect and kindness but we "let our guard down" with our families.  That is only natural, but does it sometime go too far?
God commands wives to submit to their husbands; the older women in Titus 2 are to teach the younger women to love their husbands and children.  Do we always treat our husbands and children the way we should?  Wives, do we nag  our husbands?  Does the way we treat him in private encourage and uplift him, the way it should?  Or do we belittle him and pick at his faults, slowly and painfully robbing him of his manhood?  If this is the case, STOP IT NOW!  God has appointed the husband as the head of the household, responsible before God.  That must be a daunty task and a heavy responsibility.  Nagging, taking advantage of his good nature and gentleness, constantly demanding things of him will wear him down.  Even more dangerously, you are usurping his authority granted by God.  In short, you are saying God is wrong for making your husband the head and you know what is best.  Do you really want to say that to God?

That isn't to say we, as wives, are not to have an opinion and share it with our husbands.  However, we must understand that his is the final word.  I am talking to Christian women with Christian husbands; husbands who understand they are to love their wives as Christ loves the church and gives himself up for her.  Ladies, I am telling you, if we encourage and edify our husbands the way God intends, he will be a much better leader.  If you have a husband who loves the Lord and tries to live and work for Him, you are walking on dangerous ground if you do anything but build him up and walk along side of him in love and respect.  After all, isn't what we fuss about actually silly when you really think about it?    So what if he leaves the toilet seat up?  So what if he wants to relax when he gets home from work?  Hasn't he earned it?  So often I've seen women who consider their husbands as merely another set of arms and expect them to run on Energizer batteries; happily awaiting the next project.  Give him a break ladies; he's a person same as you, with thoughts, wants, needs and feelings.

I am afraid so many foolish women tear down their homes because they forget Matt. 22:37.  I, for one, want to build my house with faithfulness, reverence, joy, love and grace.  Won't you join me?

Marcia-- I SOOO appreciate your thoughts and beliefs in this post concerning true, Biblical marriage!! God revealed these truths to me a few years back and I discussed them with a Christian male friend... He totally disagreed, which seems so strange to me (guess society has brainwashed many Christians too). So maybe it's a blessing that I'm single... Question: does your husband understand, agree, and live out these same views on Christian marriage?
