Arbor Day

In observance of Arbor Day, I want to post my Dad's favorite poem.  I really like it as well.

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

We are not "tree huggers", nor would we be labeled as even environmentalist; at least not in today's terminology.  However, as Christians, we know that the earth is God's creation and we have been assigned as stewards of it.  Therefore, we try to be good stewards.  That is why we joined the Arbor Day Foundation this year, and this weekend plan on planting several trees.  We had to cut most of our trees in the front yard down because an ice storm killed them.  We now have enough trees to replace them.

Why not take a few moments this weekend to admire the beauty of God's creation, namely the tree.  Spring is such a fabulous time, what with the buds blooming on the fruit trees.  Beautiful.
