A Trip to the Chiropractor

I took Beauty to the chiropractor this morning and I think it is going to be one of the best things I have ever done.

It all started when I read an article saying that many children with ADHD have an occiput that is jammed and, when treated, showed significant improvement.  Turns out, Beauty’s occiput is jammed, along with her T5-T6 vertabrae and her scrotum.  The muscles in the right side of her neck are also very tight and balled.  The occiput is what connects the spine to the skull.  He explained that if that is messed up, a person can have all kinds of problems including a dysfunctional central nervous system.  The jammed T5 and T6, he said, may be why she complains of her belly hurting for no other known medical reason.

I feel very encouraged after having gone to him today.  Another thing I really liked about Dr. Fisher is his focus on nutrition.  I have already taken Beauty off of cow’s milk, which he recommended, but he also suggested we limit her carbs, refined sugars and processed foods.  Of course I’ve been reading about this for years, but have never disciplined myself enough to do it.  He recommends more fish, for the  Omega-3’s, and as much “whole food” as possible.  He also put her on a whole food supplement that she is to take with every meal.  I will post more on that later.

We also came away with an exercise disk/cushion that is meant for her to sit on while doing school work.  Apparently this is very beneficial for students with ADHD.  I will post more on this later, too.  I want to give it a try and write an official review.

So, moms, if your child has ADD/ADHD, dyslexia or sensory issues I would highly recommend you take him/her to a good chiropractor.  Only time will tell how well it helps Beauty, but common sense suggests that if her spine is knotted up and jammed then straightening it out can only be an improvement.

I’d love to hear from any of you that have already been down this road.  Let me know if it worked for you!

I haven't done this, but I have a 2 1/2 year old who won't talk and they said it was because of overstimulated sensory issues, which is why I started following your blog. We meet this Friday in our home with an occupational therapist who is setting him up to do some type of animal therapy where they use horses to stimulate the senses and work on speech. Ever heard of this or have any experience?

Ya know, I have heard of that but have no experience with it. I wish I had someone to suggest something like that when Beauty was 2. I expressed my concerns but was continuously told not to worry, that some kids just have a later start. Now here she is, six going on four. I am glad you have someone to take you seriously. Beauty was 5 years old before I could get a doctor to request an evaluation. Ridiculous. Good luck and stop by any time!

I am interested to see where this goes for you. My MIL keeps pushing me to take Jayden to the chiro but it is something that I have been putting off. I just have a hard time putting my baby into the hands of someone who is going to mess with his spine.

I understand what you mean. I wouldn't have been so quick if I didn't already know the doctor. My mom and granmother both go to him and I 've even seen him myself several years ago.
