Today we began our look at the fruits of the Spirit as listed in Galatians 5:22-23. We will discuss two fruits a week. Our premier week covers the first two fruits, love and joy.
The Clubhouse Jr website provides a cute poem entitled The Fabulous Fruit of the Spirit, written by Christian Elden. Here is “love” and “joy”, but you can read the entire poem here.
The way you treat your mom and dad,
The way you treat your friends
These are ways to show you care
For all the love they give!
Joy comes out in different ways,
From smiles to laughs and giggles;
Or when you want to sing and dance
And let out all your wiggles!
For love we talked about how God is love and read 1 Corinthians 13 to get an idea of what love is. We also talked about John 3:16. We then made a list of ways Helana can show love to others.
I then had her draw a picture of a way she can show love to Mama Jean, my mother. Don’t ask me what it is
She then practiced writing the word love.
Next was Joy.
We sang the songs “I Got the Joy Down In My Heart” (Eastwood really liked this one) and “Rejoice in the Lord Always”. We talked about what it means to have joy and how we can express it. We then did a neat craft using an old crayon, an electric skillet and a piece of construction paper.
Turn the electric skillet on warm. Touch the crayon to the skillet so that it melts onto the skillet. Write or draw whatever you want onto the skillet by melting the crayon. Then gently place the construction paper onto the design. The word or picture transfers to the paper. We did this for Joy:
*Just be sure to remember when writing on the skillet to write the word/letters backwards so that it transfers to the paper correctly.
Here is Helana having a go with her own design.
Meanwhile, what is Eastwood doing during all this?
Have a blessed weekend!
