A Godly Woman’s Wardrobe Part 2

As I mentioned in a previous post, there seems to be a lot of discussion on the proper attire of a Godly woman.  I noticed that there are many women taken to wearing only dresses and skirts.  This practice has been made most public, I think, by the popular Dugger family.  I also commented on how the women who adhere to,-allow me to call it “the modest dress” lifestyle-that I have encountered on a personal basis,  I feel usually leave much to be desired in their witness for Christ.  This is because of their unkempt appearance and tight, joyless expression. (If this comes across as judgmental, please know I do not intend it to be)

I also mentioned that I have the pleasure of following the blogs of many of women who adhere to a similar dress code.  They present a stark contrast to the women I’ve personally encountered.  They ooze femininity and loveliness and, quite frankly, inspire me in becoming closer to my Savior.   They encourage me in my walk towards becoming a woman with a gentle and quiet spirit.

So, we have two groups of women who seem to have the same faith but inspire different reactions.  What makes the difference?  I think the answer lies within.  And it also requires more than this post.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve written it, only to discover I have written a short book.  (Which I may do-Smile) So, once again I will continue this thought in future posts.

This topic is so interesting to me. A little over a year ago I got very caught up in the "movement" of skirts or dresses only. I also came across some blogs of ladies that were very encouraging and inspiring. At the same time I also found myself feeling very "less than" and judged by others. Personally, I believe satan will use anything to keep our focus off of sharing Jesus and from some of the blogs I read I believe he has used this topic to get some believers so focused on outward appearance that they almost have made it an idol.

I would love to hear more of your thoughts on this subject. I always enjoy your comments on my blog! Praying for you!

I can't tell you how many times my preacher has taught on this very subject. His teaching is right in line with what you are saying. What good is dressing "holy" and acting "holier than thou"? I at one point only wore dresses (6 years ago) and went back to wearing pants. A few months ago, I felt in my spirit that I should be dressing that way now, because it was something God laid on my heart, not something I just decided to do because I thought it would make me better or more sanctified. I can't wait to read your future posts on this topic Marcia!!!

I just watched the Hallmark movie "Valentine's Day" and could not help but think how unfortunate that we have gotten so far away from dressing in modest dresses and skirts. How far we have gotten away from the sweet courtship depicted in that time. It's such a shame in our society, so many things have been neglected, overlooked, not thought of as important anymore. If you ask me, there is a correlation between losing modest dress and losing honor and integrity--things our society is sorely lacking.

Theresa,
I agree. However, I wonder if it is the lack of honor and integrity that "okays" immodest dress. Furthermore, let's define modest. Could a woman be modest and still wear pants? Can a woman be immodest in a skirt? Of course she can.

Keep the comments coming ladies, I appreciate every one!
