Sew-full Saturday

As I mentioned in a recent post, I am new to sewing.  Today was a gorgeous day in the Bluegrass, so I hauled my Singer Simple out onto the back patio for some projects I’ve been wanting to check off my list.

First, I made some pillows for the rocking chairs on our front porch.  Knowing they would likely get wet, I cut up a vinyl table cloth purchased at the Dollar General Store for $2 and used that as my fabric.  They looked kinda bland, so I hot glued a silk flower to the corner of each.

pillows Not very glamorous I know, but hey it looks good from the road/driveway! Smile

Next, I made a shade for Lil Mister’s bedroom.  He had one of those vinyl roll down shades which had definitely seen better days.  I began one using fabric to match the theme of his room.

Winking smile  I do plan to add some buttons a little more than halfway up so that I can fold the bottom up when we want to shine some light into the room.  I may add side panels too, so it doesn’t quite look so much like a blanket on a curtain rod!

Finally, I perked up a small end table that Beauty’s been using as a makeshift bench at the foot of her bed.  It was supposed to be the spot for her Barbie pool, but she keeps sitting on it to watch tv, so it has now become her bench.  It began as a small, rectangular wooden white table.  I added some padding and fabric to the “seat”.  Tonight at Wal-Mart Beauty begged me for a package containing Cinderella décor.  Since it was marked down from 29.99 to 7.50, I bought it.  Inside was a small pillow, a dust ruffle and a valance.  She has two windows in her room, so I made the valance into a skirt for her bench.

She’ll be pleased with it when she awakens in the morning.  On a side note-I really need to know how to do pleats or gatherings.  That would’ve made this look better, but it’s still cute.

So, that was my Saturday.  How did you spend your day?
